Become A Critical Thinker Is That Crucial for The Future?

The world is steadily changing, also humans must be able to keep up with the changes. Improving self-quality and skills especially in critical thinking is one way to prepare for world changes. Critical thinking is the capability to think clearly and deeply, analyze information objectively, and make a sensible judgment. Basically, critical thinking is a skill that could be mastered by frequent practices. Critical people tend to think deeply, logically, objectively, and systematically. Critical thinking important in order to protect you from being fooled. With critical thinking, you will be able to distinguish reliable news and hoax, determine something wisely, solve problems efficiently, and can assessing something objectively.

Inherently, the human brain has an innate system of thought in response to something that is called the first system. Instant, shallow, and emotional responses are included in the first system. With some extra effort, however, the human’s brain could also think deeply, systematically, and gently which can shape rational thoughts, it’s called the second system. Consistent practices to cultivate the habit of ‘questioning’ will surely help you in responding to something with spacious and rational thoughts. After reading or hearing statements or questions, first, we have to make sure that we definitely comprehend the sentences. Ask yourself, have you understood every word, idiom, or slang words that they used in each sentence. Also, ask yourself if you understood the context or background of the sentence, so there will be no errors. In addition, learning the ways of making good arguments and studying reasoning are the next important steps to exercise critical thinking skills.

As Zivkovic (2016) states, “To think through the content of a subject analytically and critically means to function effectively in a rapidly changing world.” The critical thinkers who build their own ideas, listen to others’ ideas, summarize concepts by analyzing, justifying, and defending ideas, good at making decisions and solving the real-world problem will certainly have a greater chance of winning the global competition in the future.

Having critical thinking skills enables you to think quickly, solve problems and find the best solutions especially when you must immediately find the answer. No wonder, in the future, generally every workplace, particularly the big industry or big company will more focus on those who have critical thinking skills. So, prepare yourself to be the winner of the global competition with critical thinking ability.
